If you’re into the Superhero thing then Green Lantern: First Flight is for you. This direct to video offering from Warner Bros is probably one of the best I’ve seen from them in quite some time. It’s an origin story and shows not only how Hal Jordan was chosen to become a Green Lantern but also some of the reasons why he’s one of the great ones. Most of the story takes place in space and plays out like a cop drama from the future. The real screen grabber here is Sinestro.
Even though you know he’s the bad guy going into it, watching him work is just fun. He’s bad ass. The voice acting of Victor Garber stands out as Sinestro conveys presence and power. This is no Disney film. People die in this movie … a lot of them. In addition you’ll find drugs, murder, and violent action.
FYI, Hal Jordan is the role Ryan Reynolds is supposed to play in the upcoming Green Lantern movie in 2011. In the meantime you can rent (or buy) Green Lantern: First Flight. Check out the trailer at the official website. If you’re into animation, sci-fi, and superhero action then you’ll enjoy this film. If not, you probably better pass. I am a fan however, so I give this movie a 4 out of 5 marks.
